Part of DIAMONDS, DOLLARS & A ROLEX (timed auction by The Swicegood Group)

High bid $190,000.00

Status: Sold

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona chronograph wristwatch, attributed to Ref. 6239, with a probable production date of approximately 1969 based on its seven digit serial number. Features include a reverse-panda “Paul Newman”-style exotic dial with contrasting white subsidiary registers, a stainless steel tachymeter bezel, a manual-wind movement, and a stainless steel Oyster-style bracelet with 71N end links. Observed markings include “ROLEX,” “COSMOGRAPH,” “DAYTONA,” and “STEELINOX.” A watch master at  a Windsor Jewelers in Charlotte, North Carolina, examined the watch and concluded that its characteristics were consistent with a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. This opinion supports the attribution above but does not constitute formal authentication by Rolex or confirmation by the jeweler or auction company that every component is genuine Rolex or original to the watch. The bracelet appears to be a Rolex replacement. The watch is not running and requires service. Its last reported service was in 1984 . The extent and cost of necessary repairs are unknown. Offered as is, subject to the auction’s published terms and applicable law. Bidders are encouraged to review the inspection information and obtain an independent evaluation before bidding.
