1924 silver Peace dollar. The Peace Dollar was a silver dollar coin minted in the United States from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. It was designed by Anthony de Francisci and was intended to commemorate the end of World War I. The coin features a portrait of Lady Liberty on the obverse and a bald eagle perched on a rock with the word "PEACE" inscribed below on the reverse. The Peace Dollar was minted in response to the Pittman Act of 1918, which required the melting of a large number of silver dollars and the purchase of new silver bullion. The design was chosen through a competition, with de Francisci's design ultimately selected. The coin was minted in both high relief (1921) and low relief (1922-1935) versions, with the low relief being more durable for circulation
